College of Business & Accountancy Outreach Project Evaluation to Selected Beneficiaries of Typhoon Yolanda Survivors at Brgy. Sua, San Dionisio, Iloilo

ABSTRACT 

 

This study was conducted to evaluate the different projects conducted by the College of Business and Accountancy of Central Philippine University as part of its outreach activities in Brgy. Sua, San Dionisio, Iloilo. Specifically, this project evaluation aimed to: 1) determine if the beneficiaries are aware of the projects/ services provided by the College of Business and Accountancy of Central Philippine University in the last 5 years; 2) assess the benefits of the projects to the community for the last 5 years; and 3) identify the priority needs of the community after the outreach program intervention. Considering the objectives of the study, a qualitative method was used by conducting a Focused Group Discussion (FGD) with the selected beneficiaries of the projects. The collected data was analyzed using a thematic analysis. The findings included the following: a) the beneficiaries were aware of the services provided by Central Philippine University specifically the College of Business and Accountancy to include bangkabuhayan, rug making, food processing, swine raising, livelihood training and for the benefit of the community, mangrove planting was done. As to the benefits of the project this study came up with different themes and subthemes. Theme #1 is financial benefits with the following subthemes: means of livelihood, Additional income, and savings. Theme #2 is acquisition of new skills and knowledge, while the subthemes are new product designs, and skill in food processing, and the theme #3 is improved values with the following subthemes: Increased self-confidence, productive use of time, and feeling of greatness. As to the priority needs after the outreach program intervention, it include the following: provision for a steady livelihood and additional financial assistance as its subtheme, and revival of skills training with additional skills training as its subtheme. The following conclusions are drawn: that there was a proper communication of the projects implemented by the College of Business and Accountancy to the beneficiaries of the different projects since they are aware of these projects, and the different projects implemented greatly benefited the beneficiaries both financially and non-financially.
