ABSTRACT

This paper presents a laboratory management system to practically solve existing problems encountered in the laboratory such as poor documentation (including inventory) of computer laboratory documents and difficulty in monitoring computer lab usages. The system is used to monitor the usage in the laboratory and provides improvement in the documentation processes. The development of the computer laboratory management system utilized the software engineering principles of software development in which the resulting product conforms to the industry standards. The researchers utilized the modified Waterfall Model (Life Cycle Model) for the development of the system based on the gathered requirements. Detailed requirements were made available to ensure the conformance of the product requirements. A test strategy was developed to ensure that possible risks of the system were covered. The researchers had conducted the following tests: unit/module testing, integration test, system testing, and acceptance testing. Results show that the computer laboratory management system can generate inventory reports, reports on tracking of student’s computer usage, and scheduling report of work students in the computer laboratory. The system was also able to improve security, inventory tracking, procedures, and management of computer devices, peripherals and other materials in the computer laboratory.
