Teaching and Learning Computer Fundamentals the Interactive Way: The ATP I-Computer Module

  • BY Arvin T. Perucho

ABSTRACT

E-Learning (electronic-learning), not different to any other form of education, takes advantage of utilizing Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Research conducted by education experts and professionals shows that e-Learning can be as rich and as valuable as classroom experience and even more so. Many people say they learn more using e-Learning modules, like online learning, e-textbooks, etc., and their retention is better too. This paper introduced an interactive e-Learning module which accommodates multiple learning styles using a variety of delivery methods geared to different learners. The author specifically considered the three most common learning styles (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) of students for maximum learning experience. The interactive module wad developed to solve some problems regarding traditional teaching methods like the talk-chalk and the teacher-centered method. Researcher findings states that these methods are not the best way to motivate students to learn and possibly results to loss of interest in the subject matter. The researcher utilized the modified Waterfall Model (Life Cycle Model) for the development of the e-Learning module based on the gathered requirements. The core system of the ATP I-Computer Module was developed using PHP programming tool since the project is object-oriented. The different modules (like lecture modules, quiz modules, etc.) and other components were created using Dreamweaver CS3, Web Page Maker, and flash authoring tools. The module was tested to determine faults and errors and fix these problems during the development process.
